San Francisco
You can travel to AMERICA for her “Windy City” or her “Big Apple”, but if you’re looking for something a bit more quaint and easier to chew; look to the West Coast – to be precise, San Francisco. This is the tame, yet hip alternative to the East Coast for travelling city lovers.
This small City by The Bay feeds endless eye-candy and a real sense of coolness to its explorers. You could do the standard tour, which usually involves renting a bicycle at the Embarcadero and riding through Marina Green, sipping wine at the Oyster Bar while looking out under the Bay Bridge. Or you could ride a cable car through Nob Hill and watch the steep city pass you by. This is cool, nonetheless, but I enjoyed the other side of the city more.
I recommend taking the elevator at the Fairmont Hotel up to the 36th Floor. There, you’ll get the best view of Union Square as well as feel the G-Force from top to bottom. When that gets old, borrow a bike from your hipster friends, and ride those crazy, fixed-gear bikes to the Mission District. Grab lunch at a vegan café where everything on the menu is a positive affirmation about yourself and life. People-watch hipsters hanging out in Dolores Park and count the dogs to gay men ratio.
If the black-frame glasses and tight jeans become too much in the Mission, then head to Montgomery Street and get back to business in the Financial District. Watch the dark suits and tight skirts walk quickly, holding onto their coffee’s in large cups to-go.
When you feel like escaping the norm…take the fastest trip out of America by walking to China Town and feel like a stranger unable to speak the language.
You have the freedom to do whatever you want in San Francisco and that is why I will return. It might not be a big apple but this dish is spicy, full of flavour and you can have it in a mouth full.
